(September 28, 1922 - February 2, 2012)

Dorothy (Boomgarden) Heesch, age 89, of Thompson, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Dorothy Lucille Asmus Boomgarden Heesch was born September 28, 1922, on a farm near Thompson, Iowa, the daughter of Lippo and Anna (Bell) Asmus. She attended country school and graduated from the Thompson High School in 1940. She then completed one year of college in Britt.

On September 8, 1944, Dorothy married Harvey Boomgarden. They farmed in the Thompson and Buffalo Center area for many years. To this union, four children were born. Harvey passed away in November of 1965. In 1973, she married Melbourne Heesch. She remained in Thompson until her move to the Timely Mission Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa, in December of this past year.

Dorothy loved the Lord and was very active in her church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She passed time by quilting and playing games with her dear friends.

Survivors include her children: Marlys (John) Hocker, of Clive, Barbara (Butch) Thomsen, of Buffalo Center, Karen (Rudy) Campero, of Des Moines, and Paul Boomgarden, of Clear Lake; her grandchildren: Steve Hocker, Lori Weckman, Kris Hepworth, and Lisa Thompson; her great-grandchildren: Samantha and MacKenzie Hocker, Cole and Aidan Weckman, Lydia and Ella Hepworth, and Hadlei & Harper Thompson; her sisters- and brothers in law: Vernie and Stella Boomgarden, Larry Svedin, Vi Farland, Irene Attleson, and Bernard and Claudine Boomgarden; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harvey Boomgarden and Mel Heesch; her sister, Ida; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Memorials may be sent to Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Hospice of North Iowa, or Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 6th, 2012, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
