After attending country school, he graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1942. Until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, he also attended Iowa State College. After two years of working with his brother, Charles, in his photography studio in Madison, Wisconsin, Floyd and his wife moved back to Lake Mills in 1949 where he worked as a commercial artist and Art Director at the Graphic Publishing Company for 40 years, retiring in 1989.

His watercolor paintings were well known in this area and beyond, he having donated much of his art to Ducks Unlimited and other community projects.

His creative nature brought him much enjoyment as he hiked in the woods in the Rice Lake area where he also kayaked, shot his bow, fished, and learned about the history of the Indians and former inhabitants.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his sons, Mark (Sheri) Thomas, of Stillwater, Minnesota, and Gary Thomas, of Ham Lake, Minnesota; his two granddaughters, Kelli Thomas, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jenni (Josh) Voge, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; along with many nieces and nephews.

Those who knew this man were blessed.
