Lois Jean Holst
(November 8, 1934 - September 11, 2011)Lois Jean Holst, age 76, of Lake Mills, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Lois Jean Holst was born November 8, 1934, to Leonard “Speed” and Lynn (Johnson) Gunderson in Lake Mills, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School and then attended college in Cedar Falls.
On July 8, 1956, she married Donald K. Holst at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. They were married for fifty-five years. A housewife and mother who worked outside the home all her life, Lois retired from Fleetguard Industries.
One of the biggest highlights of her life was the birth of her granddaughter Hailey. She loved spending time with her and hearing about her daily activities and friends.
Lois was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Miriam Circle. Prior to her illness, she was active in the Literary Club, the Saturday Afternoon Club, and enjoyed playing cards at Rice Lake on Tuesday afternoons. She had been a member of the same card club for many years. Holiday card games with her family ranked right up there with her favorite things to do along with throwing coffee parties and entertaining guests with her baking.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Don Holst, of Lake Mills; her daughter, Kathy (Craig) Borgmeyer, and her granddaughter, Hailey Borgmeyer, of Forest City; her brother, David (Diane) Gunderson, of Galesburg, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Lois Gunderson, of Austin, Minnesota; her brothers and sisters-in law, Dean (Priscilla) Holst, of Kiester, Minnesota, Ralph (Lois) Holst, of Leland, Gary (Mariann) Holst, also of Leland, and Mark (JoAnn) Holst, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, “Speed” and Lynn; one sister, Lorraine; one brother, Don; her father- and mother-in-law, James and Viva Holst; and one nephew, Todd Holst.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 16, 2011, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.
Lois’s family will greet friends and relatives at a gathering held from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday evening at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa, and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning.
Inurnment will take place privately at a later date.
