Avis Weringa
October 13, 1927 - September 15, 2011

Avis M. Weringa, age 83, of Elmore, Minnesota, died Thursday, September 15, 2011, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Avis (Johnson) Weringa was born October 13, 1927, in Rake, Iowa. One of eight children, she was the daughter of John and Bertha (Olson) Johnson.

On November 14, 1946, Avis married Albert Weringa at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. From this union, they were blessed with eight children.

Avis was a dedicated homemaker, who also spent time working at Walker Deluxe in Lake Mills, Iowa, St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and the Elmore Senior Center as a cook. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and fishing. She also had a passion for music and singing.

Avis loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and felt any time spent with family was time well spent. Family meant everything to her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Terry (Linda), Tom (Dawn), Steve, and Scott Weringa, and Cinda Hagedorn and Carla (Harold) Prokop, all of Elmore, Minnesota, as well as Brad Weringa, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, and Eric (Michelle) Weringa, of Winnebago, Minnesota; twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; three sisters: Bernice Engebretson, of Forest City, Iowa, Audrey Boekelman, of Titonka, Iowa, and Judy Sorenson, of Manhattan, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Albert; two brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter.

Services will be Monday, September 19, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, Minnesota, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Lakota, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Memorials may be directed to the Shiloh Lutheran Church or the Alzheimers Association.
