Dwayne "Gerdy" Geerdes
(January 27, 1933 - September 3, 2011)

Dwayne P. Geerdes, age 78, of Rake, died Saturday, September 3, 2011, at St. Luke's Care Center in Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Dwayne “Gerdy” Geerdes was born on January 27, 1933, near Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Matthew Henry and Grace Hermina (Harrenga) Geerdes. He lived his entire life in the north Iowa area. On February 19, 1956, he married Dorothy Tjelle at Forest City, Iowa. They were blessed with nine children.

Before starting his own business in Rake, Iowa, Gerdy worked for LaTerelle’s Trucking and at Hi-way Ford in Blue Earth. Many considered him the best mechanic and welder of his time because he could fix anything. He had a passion for the “N” series Ford tractors and the machinery that went with them. After he retired, he helped his son Darin with lawn mowing.

Surviving him are his children: DuLayne (Richard) Belau, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, David (Kelly), of Ruthven, Iowa, DyAnna (Gary) Park, of Fairmont, Minnesota, Debra, Dawn, and Donna, all of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Darin, of Rake, Iowa, Dacia (Chad) Viland, of Elmore, Minnesota, and Dara, of Rake, Iowa; along with ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his sisters, Gladys and Velma, and an infant brother, Maynard.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Community Chapel in Lakota, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
