(March 2, 1923 - June 26, 2011)Betty Elaine (Folven) Johnson, age 88, of Albert Lea, Minnesota (formerly of Rake, Iowa) passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.
Betty was born on March 2, 1923, in rural Kiester, Minnesota, to Gilbert and Alma (Fure) Folven. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Kiester. Later, she graduated from Rake Community High School. On October 20, 1945, she married Alanzo Johnson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had three sons, Larry, Paul, and Steve.
A farm wife and homemaker, Betty lived her life to care for her family. She loved cooking and baking and always had something ready in the oven for anyone who might stop by. Baking kringla was her specialty. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her sons and then her grandkids play sports. She enjoyed winter vacations in Florida where she and Lonnie would follow the Minnesota Twins in spring training. She loved the outdoors, spending time on the farm and summers at their log cabin in northern Minnesota.
Betty is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Lonnie Johnson; her sons: Larry (Lois) Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Paul (Nancy Trudelle) Johnson, of Savage, Minnesota, and Steve (Becky) Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Sara (Chad) Summy, of Bellevue, Nebraska, Ben (Sarah) Johnson, of Byron, Minnesota, Molly Johnson, and special friend, Chris Bryan, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Daniel Johnson, of Richfield, Minnesota, Scott Johnson, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Ellie Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her great-grandchildren: Sophia, Charlie, and Elsie Summy and Bethany and Landon Johnson. She is also survived by her sisters: Gladys Rowe and Janet (Carlyle ) Engebretson; her brother Vernon (Sharon) Folven; her sisters-in-law: Alta Erdahl and Genevieve Folven as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Omer and James Folven.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa, with Pastor Terry Mahnke and Pastor Kent Otterman officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery in Rake at a later date.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa.
