Dorothy M. Weaver, age 101, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, died on Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa, where she had resided since March of 1998.

Dorothy May (Ankeny) Weaver, daughter of Ralph D. and Ida Margaret (Rhine) Ankeny, was born on May 5, 1910, in Tama City, South Dakota. She moved with her family to Nebraska at the age of two and later to southern Iowa. Her family moved to Rake in 1921.

Dorothy married George M. Weaver on January 14, 1929, in Forest City, Iowa.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, cooking, and baking. She raised cacti and African violets; she was known for the Christmas ornaments she made; and she made the best pudding and brownies. Her family always looked forward to meals and snacks at her home. She was known to her grandchildren as “The Cracker Lady” because she always had cheese and crackers when her grandchildren visited.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Criswell, and her husband, Don, of Urbandale, Iowa; her son-in-law, Bob Behrends, of Baudette, Minnesota; her daughters-in-law: Darlene Weaver, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Marcella Weaver of Buffalo Center, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; her sister Shirley Wood (Elton), of Whittemore, Iowa; and her sister-in-law Ruth Ankeny, of Springfield, Oregon; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; her sons, Richard and Robert; her daughter, Beaulah Behrends; her grandsons: Dale Weaver, Douglas Weaver, and Michael Behrends; her great-grandson, Rusty Thompson; her brothers: Homer R. Ankeny and Joe Ankeny; and her sisters: Doris Hulmes and Pauline Wilson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 3, 2011, at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. Bill Peake officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Friday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center.
