David Aldean Heitland
(August 21, 1941 - May 18, 2011)

David A. Heitland, age 69, of Lake Mills, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

David Aldean Heitland was born on August 21, 1941, in Thompson, Iowa, to Edward and Marion (Smith) Heitland. He attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in Buffalo Center, Iowa, with the class of 1959.

Following his schooling, Dave worked in Des Moines for Lehigh Cement until 1962 when he moved back to North Iowa where he was employed at Deluxe/Fleetguard Industries. At the time of his retirement, Dave had worked there for thirty-three years, and was a plant supervisor.

On November 28, 2008, David married Gescha Berhow. Making their home in Lake Mills, the couple always enjoyed the company of their family and friends.

An avid (and competitive) golfer, David also loved to watch the Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers play ball. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gescha Heitland, of Lake Mills, Iowa; three children, Scott (Kim) Heitland, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Shelly Simmons, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Brad (Kandace) Heitland, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; three step-children, Cory (Emilie) Gregor, of Des Moines, Iowa, Dallas (Karen Ziegler) Gregor, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Andy Gregor, of Britton, South Dakota; and grandchildren, Trevor Heitland, Drew Heitland, Alisha Simmons, Khaila (Matt Stephens) Simmons, Elijah David Heitland (due July 4, 2011), Gaven Gregor, Graysen Gregor, and Lucas Ziegler. Dave is also survived by his siblings, Shirley (Jerry) Higbee, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Donna (Allan) Gilbertson, of Forest City, Iowa, and Paul (Jean) Heitland, of Lake Mills, Iowa; two aunts and an uncle, Dorothy Heitland, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Bill (Elsie) Smith, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; as well and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marion Heitland; a wife, Betty Heitland; a step-daughter, Dawn Lunning; and a brother and sister-in-law, James (Marilyn) Heitland.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Jerry Robertson officiating.

Visitation will take place an hour prior to services at the church.
