Edith Maurine Knutson
(May 8, 1917 - February 12, 2011)Edith M. Knutson, age 93, of Lake Mills, formerly of Leland and Forest City, died Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Edith Maurine (Knudtson) Knutson, the daughter of Knudt and Clara (Haugen) Knudtson, was born on May 8, 1917, in rural Forest City, Winnebago County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, Iowa. Edith was a member of the last confirmation class to be confirmed using the Norwegian language. She attended Paulson No. 2 country school, and in 1935, graduated from the Waldorf Academy.
On February 14, 1942, Edith married Raymond Knutson. Over the years, Edith worked in various restaurants, did housework for a number of families, and helped her husband farm. In the 1970s and 1980s, she worked at the Winnebago County Home.
For thirteen years, Edith served as the treasurer for the Leland Senior Citizens Club. She helped with quilting at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and she was the secretary of WELCA. Her hobbies included dancing, singing, playing cards, and playing bingo. Always proud of her Norwegian heritage, Edith had the privilege of spending three weeks with relatives in Norway in 1993.
Survivors include her son, Harold Knutson, and his wife, Lucy, of Leland, Iowa; two grandchildren, Scott Knutson, and his wife, Kelly, of Mason City, Iowa, and Stacy Tritch and her husband, Jay, of Joice, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Mariah Knutson and Kayden Knutson, both of Mason City, Iowa, Alex Hopkins and Hunter Tritch, both of Joice, Iowa; and a step-great-grandson, Jason Tritch, and his wife, Layna, of Altoona, Iowa. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles and Robert (Delores) Knudtson, both of Forest City, Iowa, three sisters-in-law, Ruth Knudtson, Cleone Knudtson, and Evelyn Knudtson, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; and her siblings Ernest (Avis) Knudtson, James Knudtson, Irene Knudtson, Melburn Knudtson, Florence (John) Albaugh, and Victor Knudtson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland, Iowa, with Pastor Tim Miller officiating. Burial will take place in the Winnebago Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 14, 2011, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
