October 23, 1911 - January 27, 1983

Funeral services for long-time Forest City resident, Harold F. Gorball, were conducted Monday morning at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. The Rev. James N. Louk officiated.

Mrs. Robert Goranson was soloist and Leonard Markusen, organist. Casket bearers were Arthur Hix, Victor Howarth, Eugene Smith, Lawrence Smith, Charles Taylor and Dennis Taylor. Burial was in Oakland cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Gorball, 71, died Thursday, January 27, 1983, at the Forest City community hospital after an illness with cancer.

Harold F. Gorball, the son of Glenn and Pearl Humphreys Gorball, was born October 23, 1911, in a sod house near Rose, Nebraska. He received his education in Rose and came to Iowa in 1926.

Gorball married Marjorie Taylor of Forest City, March 27, 1932. For several years he was employed as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for the former Sylvan Oleson Construction Co. In 1949, he started his own soil conservation construction business. From 1972 to 1981, he was the manager of Central Disposal Systems of Lake Mills.

Gorball was past-president and 27-year member of the Land Improvement Association of Iowa, 20-year member of the Winnebago Council Boy Scouts of America and recipient of the Silver Beaver award, a member of the United Methodist church where he held several offices.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, three children, Mrs. Dean (Marion) Timm of Hawkeye, Richard Gorball of Newton and Harold Gorball Jr. of Chanute, Kan., a brother, Warren Gorball of Gold Hill, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Glen (Hazel) Howarth of Omaha, Mrs. Charles (Maxine) Binsted of Potomac, MD., and Mrs. Joe (Mildred) Nickols of Blair, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a daughter, Velma Sue, in 1958.
