In Memory of Richard D. Gorball
September 12, 1934 - September 22, 2002Richard D. Gorball, the son of Harold F. and Marjorie L. Taylor Gorball, was born on September 12, 1934, in Forest City, Iowa. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1952 and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
On September 21, 1957, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Ann Larson in Forest City, Iowa. They lived in Newton, Iowa for many years while Richard worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Foreman and Superintendent for Kelly Cortum, Inc., Gjellefald Associates, and Iowa Road Builders. They had recently moved to Ellston, Iowa. Richard was on the board of directors for the Jewett Family of America, a member of the Newton Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion Post III, International Union of Operating Engineers, Jasper County Farm Bureau, and attended the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Richard was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
Richard died on Sunday, September 22, 2002, at Greather Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa. He was 68. Richard preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Timothy Gorball; brother, Harold Gorball and sister, Velma Sue Gorball.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Mary, of Ellston; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Christine Gorball of Northwood, Iowa; his 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Paul Sunde of Littleton, Colorado, Mischelle and Jeff Denison of Urbandale, Iowa and Kristina and Lee Hart of West Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; his 1 great grandchild and sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Dean Timm of Boone, Iowa.
