Philip Oftedahl
(May 21, 1924 - December 26, 2010)

Philip Oftedahl, age 86, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka, Iowa, his battle with cancer having ended.

Philip Oftedahl, a son of John and Anna (Fredricks) Oftedahl, was born May 21, 1924, in Winnebago County and attended school in Buffalo Center. On April 14, 1948, Phil was united in marriage to Joyce Jasperson in Blue Earth, Minnesota. This union was blessed with two children: Dale and Debra.

Phil started driving semi at an early age. He then worked the next thirty-three years for Winnebago County. After retiring at age sixty-two, he enjoyed driving school bus for North Iowa for the next fourteen years as a substitute route driver and as extra-curricular activities driver.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed watching sports, especially football. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Viking fan.

Phil and Joyce looked forward to taking yearly family vacations. After retirement, they vacationed together in Branson, Missouri, and Arizona.

Phil enjoyed time spent with his family, playing cards, participating in family reunions, riding his motorcycle (which he referred to as his Harley), walking, visiting friends, and sharing a joke or two.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Dale, and his wife, Ingrid, of Lakota; his daughter, Deb, and her husband, Bob, of Britt; three grandchildren: Tanya Weringa and her fiancé, Chris Nygaard, of Ankeny; Travis Johnson, of Swea City, and Jennifer Johnson, and her significant other, Jeff Braun, of Clear Lake; four great-grandchildren: Anthony, Joseph, and Annaliese Weringa and Gavin Braun; his brother, John Oftedahl, of Titonka; his three sisters: Deanna Massey, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Marge Kaluzne, of Hopkins, Minnesota, and her twin sister, Phyllis Morris, and her husband, Earl, of Mason City; as well as nieces and nephews and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; and his sisters, Faye Everding and Jennie Lappe.

His funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial will be at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
