Margie "Marge" Miller
(November 30, 1931 - December 23, 2010)Margie “Marge” Ione Miller, age 79, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Margie "Marge" I. (Thompson) Miller was born to Hans and Henrietta (Bargman) Thompson on November 30, 1931, in rural Palo Alto County near Plover, Iowa. She grew up in North Central Iowa where her parents farmed for many years. She loved horses and enjoyed them as a mode of transportation growing up.
She graduated from Seneca High School where she played guard on her high school basketball team. She worked various jobs after high school and while working as a bookkeeper at the elevator in Swea City, Iowa, she met an Assistant Manager, George E. Miller. George asked Margie out more than once and his persistence paid off. They fell in love and were married on April 21, 1962.
George and Marge lived in Emmetsburg, Plessis, Early, and Jolley, Iowa, before moving to Buffalo Center in 1972 with their sons, Paul and Kurt. Kristi joined the family in Buffalo Center.
Margie was a housewife and mother with many interests. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards with her friends. She also had a green thumb and could make any flower grow, especially African violets. Marge began quilting at the church as well as making a few quilts of her own.
After George passed away in December, 1984, Marge began working part-time at the Buffalo Center Veterinary Clinic. She later added cleaning the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she became a member after moving to Buffalo Center.
Marge was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in August 2008. She was able to remain in her home until May 2009 when she entered the Timely Mission Nursing Home. As a resident at TMNH, she spent many hours working on her tan and visiting with friends, old and new.
She is survived by her children, Paul and Pam Miller, of Boone, Iowa, Kurt and Pam Miller, of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Kristi Miller of Mason City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Maggie Miller, Caldwell Miller, and Samuel Miller, all of Boone, and Marsden Powell, of Burnsville, Minnesota. She is also survived by two sisters, Genese (Harold) Swanson, of Swea City, Iowa, and Rose (Wayne) McLaughlin, of Belle Plaine, Iowa; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Mary Miller, of Clive, Iowa, Florence and Willard Christensen, of Storm Lake, Iowa, James and Jan Miller, of Kingman, Arizona, and Marge Miller, wife of the late Robert Miller, of Albert City, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; and her brother, Henry.
Her funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. Perry Aalgaard officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 6 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
