Mary Ilene (Lien) Flo was born on November 7, 1955, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Orville and Galya (Walkner) Lien. She was baptized on November 27, 1955, and confirmed in 1971, both at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Mary attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1974. Following graduation, she lived in Mesa, Arizona, took some additional schooling, and began working in a physical therapist's office.
On September 22, 1984, Mary was united in marriage with Rick L. Flo in Mesa. The couple lived and worked there a few more years before moving back to North Iowa in 1989. Mary eventually became a non-traditional student attending NIACC for transcription. She was awarded the Pathways to Success Award during her time at NIACC and later was employed at Mercy Medical Center as a transcriptionist.
Mary loved her family, and her greatest pride came as a Grandma. She really does have the most beautiful granddaughters in the world! Mary enjoyed traveling, attending the Minnesota State Fair, going to amusement parks, and collecting pigs. Her memorable, infectious laugh and her endless giving spirit will not be forgotten.
Survivors include her two sons and their families, Chris (Molly) Flo, and daughter, Rowan, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Joshua (Cassie) Flo, and daughter, Teagan, of Mason City, Iowa; her mother, Galya Lien, of Lake Mills, Iowa; her brother, Milo (Louise) Lien, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a sister, Linda (Bob) Lair, of Lake Mills, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Mardene Lien, of Joice, Iowa. Mary is also survived by relatives on Rick’s side of the family as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rick, in 2007; her father, Orville; her brothers, Rick and Dennis; and a niece Jamie Lien.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 20, 2010, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.
