Carroll Johnson
(September 15, 1943 - November 13, 2010)Carroll Johnson, 67, of Winnebago, Minnesota, passed away November 13, 2010, at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Carroll Brian Johnson was born on a sheep Ranch on September 15, 1943, in Swea City, Iowa, to Lars and Lillian (Quamme) Johnson. He attended country school Lincoln # 4 for six years. He then went to Rake to finish junior high and high school. He graduated in 1960 at the age of 16.
He worked for Gjellefald Construction and later for the Fort Dodge Scale Company.
In 1961, Carroll married Catherine Shortenhaus and came back to farm in Rake, Iowa. In 1963, Randall was born, and in 1967, Michael was born. Catherine died in a boating accident in 1970. In 1971, Carroll married Mary Peterson from Forest City, Iowa. In 1973, Lisa was born.
In 2000, Carroll and Mary moved to Winnebago, Minnesota, where he worked as a custom applicator. At the time of his death, he was working part-time for three different businesses. Carroll farmed, did construction work and excavating, sold and serviced snowmobiles, drove truck and operated a filling station.
Carroll was a loving father and grandfather. He made friends with whomever he met. He loved to fish, to ride his motorcycle and four wheeler, to fly model airplanes, and to fly. He got his pilots license at 50 years of age.
Carroll was a cancer survivor of fifteen years. He battled and won his diagnosis of lymphoma-non-Hodgkin’s Disease!! In addition, he was involved in a stem cell research program in Rochester, Minnesota.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Mary, of Winnebago, Minnesota; his son, Michael (Amy) Johnson, of Kimball, Minnesota; his daughter, Lisa Patterson, and significant other Matt of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; his son-in-law, Herb Patterson, of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Ashley Patterson, and boyfriend, Cole, and Macy Patterson, both from Lake Crystal, Minnesota; his mother, Lillian Johnson, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; his brother, Ronald (Nancy) Johnson, of Rake, Iowa; his brothers-in-law: Clayton Bilyeu, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jack (Ruth Ann) Peterson, of Forest City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Carroll was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine; his son, Randall; his father, Lars Johnson; his sister, Lois Bilyeu; his in-laws: John and Evelyn Shortenhaus and Jack and Emma Peterson.
Services for Carroll will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 10:30 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa, with Pastor Terry Mahnke and Pastor Ronald Jobe officating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
