Daniel O'Keefe
September 14, 1912 - October 12, 2010Daniel O'Keefe, age 98 of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Dan O'Keefe, son of Alfred and Mary (Danielson) O'Keefe, was born on a farm in Kossuth County near Ledyard and Lakota, Iowa, on September 14, 1912. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On October 12, 1935, he was united in marriage to Gladys Thompson, and three daughters were born to this union. They famed in the Lakota area for several years and then moved to a farm near Russell, Minnesota, in 1947. After three years, they moved to the Buffalo Center area where they farmed another 21 years.
In 1971, Dan retired from farming, and he and Gladys built a home in Forest City where they resided for seven years. They were employed at Winnebago. In 1978, they built a home in Buffalo Center and lived there until Gladys died. Dan moved back to Forest City, and in 2000, he moved to Prairie View in Garner. In April of 2010, he moved to Clear Lake where he died at the age of 98 years and 1 month.
Dan held various positions on the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Board in Buffalo Center. He is survived by three daughters: Sharon (Miller) Roskamp of Cedar Falls; Yvonne (Larry) Schuler of Nora Springs; and Donna (Lawrence) Miller of Clear Lake. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Preceeding him in death were his wife, Gladys; his parents, Alfred and Mary O'Keefe; four sisters, Marge, Alice, Ellen, and Elva; five brothers, Everett, Tom, and John; and two brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be 10:30AM Saturday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with Pastor Perry Aalgaard officiating. Burial will be at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.
Friends are welcome to greet his family on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. NW, Buffalo Center, and an hour before the funeral at the church on Saturday.
