Anna Heyer
(August 6, 1922 - September 21, 2010)

Anna Heyer, age 88, of Britt, Iowa, died at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt on September 21, 2010.

Anna Heyer was born August 6, 1922, on a farm outside of Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Ole and Grace (Meinders) Folkerts. On September 19, 1940, Anna married William Heyer at the First Reformed Church parsonage by Rev. Everts. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 19, 2010.

After their marriage, Anna and William lived on a farm outside of Buffalo Center, Iowa, until they moved onto an acreage in 1982, also south of Buffalo Center. They, then, moved into the town of Britt in June of 1997. While living on the farm, Anna enjoyed gardening and canning.

Anna enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune nightly. She also enjoyed reading, especially the Buffalo Center Tribune, Globe Gazette, and Cappers Weekly. She enjoyed telling her friends and family the weekly jokes from Cappers Weekly. Anna enjoyed music, particularly old hymns and country.

Anna was also an avid reader of the Bible. She and William attended church at the First Reformed Church weekly until they were no longer able to because of their declining health. From then on, Anna never missed a church broadcast. The radio was the first thing that had to be brought to the nursing home.

Because of her failing health, Anna moved into the Westview Care Center on May 24, 2008. While at the nursing home, she enjoyed playing bingo and listening to the musical entertainment.

Anna loved being with her family. She always wanted her family together for holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anna is survived by her husband, William, of Britt; her four children: Judy Leerar (Dick), of Britt, Larry Heyer, of Britt, Arlo Heyer, of Britt, and Bruce Heyer (Debra), of Clear Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Brian Leerar (Kim), of Britt, Randy Leerar (Teresa), of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Lori (Wil) Benjamin, of Chicago, Illinois, Jeremy Heyer (Jessica), of Boone, Iowa, and Jennifer (Wade) Roberts of Clear Lake, Iowa; her eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Henry Folkerts (Geraldine), of Britt; her sister-in-law, Everdena Folkerts, of Thompson, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Menno; and her sister, Aleta.

Funeral Services for Anna will be held Friday, September 24, 2010, at 10:30 AM at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. Bill Peake officiating. Burial will follow at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Visitation is Thursday, September 23, 2010, from 5 to 7 PM at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. NW, Buffalo Center, and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church.
