Marlene J. McLaughlin, age 75, of Joice, Iowa, died Monday, October 18, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Marlene Joice (Myrton) McLaughlin was born on September 18, 1935, in Aurora, Iowa, to Ted and Sophia (Frank) Myrton. She attended and graduated from Aurora High School and went on to take classes in dental hygiene. For a number of years, Marlene was employed as a hygienist.

On October 20, 1959, Marlene was united in marriage with James “Jim” McLaughlin in Independence, Iowa. The couple lived in various communities, most recently in Ventura, Iowa, where they owned and operated Toma Meats until they retired and moved to Joice.

Marlene enjoyed crossword puzzles and word search puzzles as well as visiting with her son, Jeff, at his home in Joice.

Survivors include her son, Jeff, of Joice, Iowa, a special friend and caregiver, Veronica Peterson, of Joice, Iowa, and other extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; her son, Kirk; and a brother, Gary Myrton.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 21, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa.

A graveside burial service will be on Friday, October 22, 2010, at 1:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Lake Mills with Father Dennis Miller officiating.
