Funeral Services Held Dec. 18 for John G. Steinmetz

Funeral services for John G. Steinmetz, 35, of Washington, D.C. were held Wednesday morning, December 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with the Rev. Avery Wetzig officiating. Winter Funeral Service of Buffalo Center was in charge of arrangements and interment was in Hazel Green cemetery at Ackley, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Fred Moen, Ray Bosma, Ernest James, Orion Lee, Dean Sunde, and Alvin Landheer.

John Grothaus Steinmetz was born to Rollin T. Steinmetz, Sr. and Dr. Tjode C. Steinmetz on June 7, 1933 at Buffalo Center, Iowa. He passed from this life December 13, 1968 in Washington, D.C. at the age of 35 years, 6 months and 6 days.

John Steinmetz lived most of his life in the Buffalo Center area, attending the Buffalo Center Schools. In 1961 he moved to Washington, D.C. where he was employed as a Computer Consultant to the U.S. Department of Commerce,
Small Business Administration.

John had a great interest in science and through self-study and independent research he developed new electronic computer uses and programs which are registered with the U.S. Patent Office. His experience in his field was nationally and internationally recognized when he was recently invited to address a meeting of computer scientists at a convention in Atlantic City,
New Jersey. The paper he presented was acclaimed as an original innovation
in the process of communication between man and electronic computing equipment.

John was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Trayce Corrine. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Dr. Tjode Steinmetz of Buffalo Center, one brother, Rollin T. Steinmetz, Jr., a Colonel in the United
States army stationed in Okinawa. Other relatives include Dr. J.W. Dulin, a cousin, Dr. Cornetta Grothaus Moen (aunt), Fred Moen (cousin) and many other relatives and friends.
