Ronald Berschman
May 3, 1952 - August 30, 2010

Ronald Berschman, age 58, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Ronald Gene Berschman was born May 3, 1952, at the Buffalo Center Hospital in Buffalo Center, Iowa. His beginning years were spent on a farm south of Lakota until 1961 when his family moved to a farm northwest of Buffalo Center.

He started his education in Lakota and continued in Buffalo Center after moving there. Ron graduated in the class of 1970 from Buffalo Center High School. He attended college at Iowa State and then a college in Montana.

Returning to Buffalo Center, he worked as a mechanic for Jensvolds. He then started a commercial painting business and drove semi for various companies.

Ron's love was playing with his dog, Skeeter, growing fields of beans and corn, enjoying the outdoors, riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his friends and family. His smile, that twinkle in his eyes, and big hugs will be greatly missed.

A free spirit, Ron never wanted to stay too long in any place. He was always the one to be "fashionably" late and before you knew it, you'd turn around and he was gone.

Ron was a big man with a bigger heart. He had the gift of talking to anyone, whether he knew you or not. You may have started the conversation as strangers, but you ended as friends. His list of friends is endless.

Ron is survived by his parents, John and Jane Berschman, of Buffalo Center; brother Tim and wife, Vicki, of Buffalo Center; sisters Deb Aukes and husband Doug, Joann Steffensen and husband Paul, all of Buffalo Center, and Denise Watkins and husband Jim, of Urbana, Illinois; nieces and nephews: Nicole Seng, Brooke, Wade and Bridget Aukes, Tony and Abby Steffensen, and Alison Watkins, and their families. Those who also will miss him are uncles and aunts, Donald and Ruth Clapper of Burt, IA; Kay Newel of Newton, IA; Joe and Dorothy Berschman of Buffalo Center, IA; Pete and Pat Smidt of Fayetteville, AK; Bill and Arvilla Smidt of Blue Springs, MO, along with many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, an uncle Gene Newel, and a cousin Brian Newel. Rest in peace Ron and ride in the wind!

Services for Ronald will be Thursday September 2, 2010, at 10:30 AM at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa, with Pastor Shannon Pascual of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center officiating. Burial will be at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Visitation will be Wednesday September 1, 2010, from 5-7 PM at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
