Christian Palmer Hamlin
(July 30, 1924 - August 28, 2010)

Christian Palmer (Pappy), age 86, of Zimmerman, MN, passed away peacefully of natural causes while residing at the Veterans Home in St. Cloud, MN, on Saturday August 28, 2010.

Christian Palmer Hamlin (Pappy) was born July 30, 1924, in Rake, Iowa, to Clara and Chris Hamlin. Pappy graduated from Thompson High School in 1941. He then served in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge.

Palmer was married to Charlotte Jean Doyle on July 27, 1945, in Forest City, IA. He became office manager and then manager of the Winnebago County REC for over 40 years. Palmer and Charlotte lived in Thompson until 1986, and then, they retired to live in Hackensack, MN, on Woman Lake for the past twenty plus years.

He loved to golf with his friends, attend sporting events, travel, and was involved on the Thompson City Council for years. He enjoyed spending time at his lake home before he retired and welcomed friends and family with open arms whenever they were able to visit.

Palmer is survived by his wife Charlotte Hamlin of Zimmerman, MN; two sons: Michael Hamlin of Westminster, CA; and Kevin (Michelle) Hamlin of Zimmerman, MN; and sister Lila Mae Bang of Mason City, IA. He was proud of his grandchildren: Brian (Sara) Schaffler; Brent (Ashley) Schaffler; Marissa Hamlin; Sasha Hamlin; Samantha Hamlin; and Jeremiah Hamlin. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Ayden; Ben; and Katlyn; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, and friends.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Kathy Schaffler; his parents, Clara and Chris Hamlin; his brothers, Elmer, Maynard, Alvin, and Willard; and sisters Anna Wakefield and Cora Gudal.

Memorial Services will be Saturday September 11, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, with Rev. Mark Decker officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Bethany Lutheran Church.
