James Daren Thompson
February 1, 1967 - July 26, 2010FERTILE – James D. Thompson, 43, of Fertile died Monday (July 26, 2010) as a result of drowning at the Fertile Dam.
James Daren Thompson, the son of Daren and Jean (Kamp) Thompson, was born February 1, 1967, at Forest City. He attended school at Forest City until the tenth grade and then moved to Britt with his family, graduating from Britt High School in 1986.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at San Diego, CA. In 1988, he returned to Iowa and worked as a carpenter for Bruns Construction in Britt and later Byerly’s in Lake Mills as a soup cook. The past five years he had been working at Plastic Injections in Fertile and doing volunteer work in Fertile. He enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR, volunteering and was an avid Vikings and Twins fan.
Jim is survived by his mother, Jean, of Forest City; three brothers and a sister, Daniel (Mary) Thompson of Forest City, Valerie Nielsen of Forest City, Steven (Tammy) Thompson of Britt and Duane Thompson of Mesa, AZ; seven nieces; three nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daren, in 1981; and by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorial services will be held 3 P.M., Thursday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Rev. John Rollefson officiating. Inurnment will be in Madison Township Cemetery with military rites by the Forest City Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
