Helen Irene Dahlby
(April 29, 1919 - June 5, 2010)Helen I. Dahlby, age 91, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Saturday, June 05, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Helen Irene (Stephenson) Dahlby was born April 29, 1919, in Page County, Iowa, to John and Irene (McClellan) Stephenson. She attended and graduated from Shenandoah High School in Shenandoah, Iowa, after which she moved to Mason City and attended Hamilton Business College.
On March 2, 1941, Helen was united in marriage with Duayne Dahlby at Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Joice. The couple farmed southeast of Joice until 1967 when they moved into Lake Mills. Together, they wintered in McAllen, Texas, for a number of years. She and Duayne loved to dance. Helen loved taking care of her family, her home, and her flowers. She spent free time gardening, camping, and enjoying birds.
Survivors include her six children, Karen (Philip) Ridout of Huntington Beach, CA, Stephen (Sally) Dahlby of Rochester, MN, John (Barbara) Dahlby of Waverly, IA, David (Deborah) Dahlby of Bettendorf, IA, Stanley (Paulette) Dahlby of Overland Park, KS, and Gordon (Mary) Dahlby of Urbandale, IA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Michael Ridout, Bradley (Heather) Ridout, Danielle (Ryan) McCulloch, Alexandra (Michael) Gregory, Laura (Christopher) Nicolai, Paul Dahlby, Jeffrey (Deb) Dahlby, Sarah (Ryan) Dahlby Albright, Erin Dahlby, Timothy Dahlby, Ryan (Jessi Richter) Dahlby, Emily Dahlby, James (Heather) Dahlby, Julie (Greg) Hunt, Keith (Samantha) Dahlby, and Nancy Dahlby; 15 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brooke, Tate, Allison, Andrew, Julia, Anna, Nathan, Erika, Corinne, Gabrielle, John, William, Megan, and Kate; and a brother, Charles (Sue) Stephenson of The Woodlands, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duayne, in 1985; two sisters, Dorothy Lovitt and Inez Havick; and a brother, Joe Stephenson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Joice, Iowa.
Visitation for Helen will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Youth for Christ-The Bridge in Lake Mills or to Hospice of North Iowa.
