David O. Davidson
(May 2, 1948 - February 20, 2010)

David O. Davidson, age 61, of Lake Mills, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

David Olin Davidson was born on May 2, 1948, to parents Olin and Minnie (Varland) Davidson in Buffalo Center, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa. David attended and graduated from Thompson Community High School in 1966.

On February 27, 1968, David entered the United States Army, receiving his basic training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and additional training at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He served in Vietnam.

David was united in marriage with Gloria Gentz on August 21, 1971, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, Iowa. The couple had two children, Lisa and Darrel, and made their home in Lake Mills. Early on, David worked at Deluxe Products for about ten years, and on October 6, 1981, he became Post Master for Lake Mills. On May 2, 2003, David retired from the postal service after 32 years of being a mail carrier and post master. Following his retirement, to keep himself busy, David was employed by Forest City Ford.

David was active in the community of Lake Mills, serving one term on the city council in 1987. He was a member of the Otto/Chose Post #235 and served on the Lake Mills Fire Department from 1975-1991.

Dave loved restoring cars, hunting, trap shooting, crossword puzzles, and above all else, his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Lake Mills, IA; children, Lisa (Matthew) Johanson of Wasilla, AK, and Darrel Davidson of Lake Mills, IA; two grandchildren, Aidan and Kyla Johanson; and three sisters, Mavis Thorson of Lake Mills, IA, Delores (Robert ) Knudtson of Forest City, IA, and Lois (Val) Lembke of Iowa City, IA. Dave is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Minnie Davidson; a brother-in-law, Bob Thorson; and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Randy Baldwin and Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.

Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, with military honors conducted by the Otto/Chose Post #235 of Lake Mills. The Final Call ceremony will be conducted by members of the Lake Mills Fire Department during the service at the church.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday.
