Military funeral services with American Legion Post No. 539 in charge were held for John O. Ryg, 70, on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Pastor Hilmar Mostul conducted the services which were held at 1:30 at the Zion Lutheran Church.

John O. Ryg, son of Ole and Malina Ryg, was born September 6, 1891 near Rake. Death came at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, on January 5, 1962. He was 70 years, three months and two days old. He was baptized in the Old Liberty Church, the record does not give the date. He was confirmed July 16, 1905 in the Old Liberty Church.

During World War I he served in the U.S. Army in Co. E, 315th Engineers, and saw service overseas in France. On his army enlistment sheet, he listed himself as a farmer, having worked not only on various farms, but also at the Johnson Meat Market. Of later years he worked as a painter.

He was married on August 3, 1925 to Randina Pederson in Renville County, Minn. His wife passed away November 25, 1945. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mavis who died in childhood, and by two sisters, Mrs. Gust Johnson and Mrs. J.E. Russ. A son John died in infancy. Surviving him is his son, Louis, of Minneapolis, his daughter Maxine, Mrs. Dewey Rollins, of Augusta, Georgia, and his brother Ole Ryg of Rake. He had four grandchildren besides other relatives. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and of the American Legion.
