WOODSTOCK - Avis Steinbach, 68, of Woodstock, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.

She was born Feb. 21, 1936, in Rake, Iowa, to Robert and Alma (Donhough) Kissel. She married Peter Steinbach on Jan. 31, 1959, in Chicago.

She had a passion for gardening.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael (Louise) Steinbach; a daughter, Carol (David) Schweihs; three grandchildren, Bob, Brittany and Raina; and four sisters, Lorraine (the late Clarence) Doden, Marian (Russell) Reck, Janet (Gene) Ensminger and Elsie (Robert) Locke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lowell (Florence) Kissel and Robert Kissel; and a sister, Ruth (the late Ken) Rendall.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Skaja Bachmann Funeral, 7715 W. Route 14, Crystal Lake. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the funeral home.

Memorials made to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
