Gilbertson, G.S., state senator -- Forest City -- born 17 Oct., 1863, in Spring Grove, Minn. His parents came from Hallingdal, Norway, in their infancy, and settled in Rock county, Wis., but moved to Spring Grove in 1862. Young Gilbertson attended the common school until fifteen years of age, then the family moved to Worth county, Iowa, where he worked on his father's farm until twenty-one years of age.

In 1885 he graduated from a business college in Janesville, Wis., and the same year settled at his present place of residence, where he has been ever since. At first he was bookkeeper and salesman for a farm implement concern for aobut one year, then clerked in a general store until he was elected clerk of the district court, on the Republican ticket, in 1888, and was re-elected three times, without opposition. In 1895 he was elected to the state senate. Gilbertson has also been city treasurer for eight yeras, and secretary of the board of education for seven years.

He is president of the Buffalo Center State Bank, Buffalo Center, Iowa; cashier of the Forest City National Bank, at Forest City; secretary of the Forest City Land and Abstract Company; member of the firm publishing the 'Winnebago Summit', the oldest weekly newspaper in the county; and is one of the proprietors and editors of the 'Winnebago School Journal', a monthly publication. Gilbertson is a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Synod; was married in 1888 to Belle D. Whitney, an American lady, of Forest City. They have two children.
