Gwen,
You can find John M Duffy in Washington Twp, Webster Co IA in 1930.
The listing is as follows:
John M, 48yo/married at 38 yo, b: IA, parents: Ireland and IA
Josephine, wife, 43yo/married at 33yo b: MN, parents: Norway/Norway
Annette, daughter, 7yo, b: IA, parents IA/MN
They lived on Allen St in Duncombe and John is a barber and he owns his own shop.

as a footnote, there is an Albert Johnson who is age 44 born MN, parents born Norway/Norway who is also a Barber. Its a longshot but this could possibly be Josephines brother.

I do not see your John in any other year so you may have to be creative. He is not in Webster or Hamilton Cos in 1920, even tho his brothers and mother are. Per his 1930 census he was not a veteran.
