Grandfather adopted

I am searching for information on my grandfather. His name was Fredrick Bastian. The family story goes he was actually born "McLaughlin" but adopted by Martin Bastian who lived on a farm in Fort Dodge with his unmarried sister and mother. My grandfather listed his birth date as 6 June 1898 on his SSN application with his father as Martin Bastian and Mother unknown. If anyone has information or leads, please help. This is the last leg of our families geneology and I desperately want to fill it in. Thanks
