FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ROY W. HALE SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Funeral services for Roy W. Hale, 67, who died Thursday at Lutheran Hospital after a long illness will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Wilder and Bruce Funeral home. (1947)

Dr. William T. Paden, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the rites. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Mr. Hale, well known and popular Fort Dodge business man, was born in State Center, Iowa, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hale. He was graduated from high school in Des Moines and attended Iowa State college at Ames for a time.

Here 51 Years

Fifty-one years ago he came to Fort Dodge and was employed by the Green-Wheeler Shoe company as assistant superintendent and foreman. Later he entered the grocery, business and operated his own store for four and a half years at Fourteenth street and Fourth avenue north. He subsequently became district manager of the Royal Union Life Insurance Company under the late Eugene Cook and for a number of years afterward was associated for time with the Bankers Lifer Insurance company of Iowa.

From 1918 to 1931, Mr. Hale was secretary of the Masonic bodies here.

During the past 14 years, he had been employed by the State of Iowa in the local liquor store and at the time of his retirement was assistant manager.

A sports fan, he enjoyed fishing and followed football and baseball with enthusiasm.

Helped Many

Probably his principal interest was helping others and friends will recall that he never failed in his endeavor to be of assistance in whatever way was open to him. Characteristically, once a favor was done, he promptly forgot about It and only sought out new ways to be helpful.

Mr. Hale is survived by his wife, the former Drusilla Gillfillen, two sisters, Mrs. A. C. Heath Sr. and Miss Meriam Hale, both of Fort Dodge, and a brother, Thomas Hale of Denver, Colo.

A number of nieces and nephews also survive, among them County Treasurer V. E. Hale and Mrs. Lee Chase of Fort Dodge.

Four brothers, Aaron, Andrew, William and James Hale preceded him in death.
