Nelson Hird returned the fifteenth from Piperstone, Minn where he attended the funeral of his brother Thomas Hird Jr. who died at his residence in Fort Dodge, Ia., February 7, 1913. Death was the result of Meningitis of the Brain. He was employed at the New Duncombe school house. He had been formerly employed as a fireman on the Minneapolis and St. Louis R.R. but resigned to go on the Illinois Central. It was while waiting for the latter appointment on the road and working on the school house that he, on the second of February complained of what seemed to be a bad cold, the fourth it developed into an unusual pain in the head which resulted in miningetis of the brain. Thomas Hird, son of Mrs. Nancy Bryant (of Ottumwa, Ia.,) was born in Schulyer County, Jan. 1 1882. He was united in marriage last September to Miss Jennie Zarn of Pipestone, Minn. He passed away February 7, 1913. Besides his young wife he leaves behind a mother, four sisters, four brothers and friends. His wife accompanied by her mother, sister, his mother, brothers and sisters, besides other relatives and friends took his body ot Pipestone, Minn., where he was laid to rest.
