DEATH OF Mrs. P. E. Reckard Feb. 1911

A shadow of gloom was cast over the community last Sunday afternoon when the sad news was received here that Mrs. P. E. Reckard had passed away at the hospital of Mayo Bros. at Rochester, Minn. Last Friday she submitted to an operation for the removal of a tumor. The operation was successful and she recovered from the effects nicely and was making rapid progress toward recovery. Sunday noon she took a sudden turn for the worse and at 1 o'clock passed away. Ablood clot forming on the brain was the cause of her death. Abbie Adella Jameson was born in Webster County on a farm in Washington Township, on the 5th day of August, 1866 and was 44 years and 6 months old at the time of her death. She grew to womanhood in this county and on the 21st day December, 1887 was united in marriage to Phineas E. Reckard. They have resided here ever since, residing in town for a number of years. To their union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy and three are living at the present time. The surving children are Mrs. Edna (Reckard) Olden, Stephen, aged 17 and Eva aged 16. Besides the husband and children she leaves her father W. H. Jameson, and a sister Mrs. F. J. Reckard, residing in California. (Her sister is Willetta H. Jameson married to Francis Jay Reckard, son of Ira D. Reckard.) Seldom has a death caused such widespread gloom through the community as the death of this good woman. She numbered her friends by the score and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. It was only a little over a week ago that she left for Rochester and her friends who bade her good-bye at the depot little thought that it would be the last time they would see her alive. She was taken away from her family in the prime of life and the home that was so happy only a short time ago is now shrouded in grief. The remains arrived here Monday morning from Rochester and yesterday afternoon the funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, Rev. Calkins officiating. After the services at the church the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. The local lodge of the R. N. A. of which the deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body and conducted the ritual service at the grave. The grief-stricken husband and children, who are thus bereft of a kind and loving wife and mother, have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their sad affiction.
