Arlene A. Gleason, 90, a resident of Calvin Community, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, Wednesday, January 2, at Westover Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvin Community, with the Reverend Tony Thurston officiating.

Arlene Anna Franzeen was born April 20, 1917 in Lost Grove Township near Gowrie in Webster County, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Skoog) Franzeen. She graduated from Lanyon Consolidated School. Arlene helped on the family farm during World War II. She moved to Des Moines in 1945, first working for a family in their home and later at Meredith Corporation, retiring in 1985 after 31 years. Arlene married Earl D. Gleason on July 23, 1953 in Columbus, Nebraska. She moved to Calvin Community after Earl's death in 1992. Arlene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, transferring from Zion Lutheran.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; a sister, Dora Franzeen and a brother, Arnold Franzeen. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Geraldine Gleason and Kay Sharp and nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvin Community Good Samaritan Fund.
