Fort Dodge Evening Messenger, March 4, 1899. p. 6.

Mrs. Crosby's Funeral-- Both she and her husband were old pioneer settlers.
The funeral of Mrs. John Crosby was held Wednesday, from her home near the Mericle school house. On account of the bad condition of roads and weather not so many of her friends from the city were present as had wished to go, but many friends from about her home were in attendance. The services were conducted by the minister from Evanston, and the pallbearers were Messrs. T.J.
Allen, J. Munn, D. Riordan, J. Jordain, A. Stine and J. Micaman.
The death of Mrs. Crosby and of her husband removes two of Webster county's old and respected settlers. Coming here, as they did, in 1865 they have seen the development of the county and have contributed their share to the county's
progress.
Mrs. John Crosby, whose maiden name was Martha E. Adamson, was born June 17,1829, in Ohio. She was married to John Crosby October 12, 1848, and with her husband moved to Jackson county, Iowa, eight years later. They continued to dwell here until 1865, when they moved to Webster county, where they have continued to make their home up to the time of their death. At the time of her
death, which occurred February 27, Mrs. Crosby had reached the ripe old age of almost 70 years.
Seven children were born to Mr.and Mrs. Crosby, five of whom are now living: James F., William H., and Sylvester A. Crosby, and Mrs. J.H. Crouse and Mrs. N.L. Albee.
