Since we last gathered in Christian Community this last Sunday, we have been saddened by the death of one of our members, Leona Lingwall. She has lived well her life of faith among us as we are reminded in this brief sketch of her life.

Leona Roseanna Swanson, daughter of Charles and Hulda Swanson, was born at their home southeast of Harcourt on December 16, 1900. She passed away on December 20, 1978 at the age of 78 years and four days.

Leona was baptized, confirmed, and remained a very active member of the Harcourt Untied Methodist Church.

Leona was united in marriage to William R. Lingwall on August 16, 1933 at the home of her brother Oscar Swanson. To this union was born one son, Richard. They lived their entire married life in Harcourt. William preceded her in death in October of 1972.

After being educated in rural school and the Harcourt High School, Leona worked in the post office for several years as a 4th class clerk, then for twenty-five years as a classified clerk, three of these years as acting postmaster.

Leona has always been active in church work, being a Sunday School teacher and a choir member for many years, serving on the records committee for several years, and serving in many other capacities of Church work. She was a Life member of the Women's Society and served as treasurer of this organization for many years.

Leona is survived by her son Richard of Nevada, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Marilyn; two grandsons, Nathan and Stephen; one brother, Lawrence, of Corvallis, Oregon; and many other relatives and friends.
