Longtime Alaskan Edward Stanley Lynch, 92, died March 30, 2007, at the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers' Home in Palmer.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Wasilla. Pastor Fred Stroud will officiate.
Ed Lynch was born May 25, 1914, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Dennis E. and Judith B. Lynch. He graduated from high school there. In 1936, he married the love of his life, Margaret "Peggy " Lynch.
In 1948 he came to Alaska to work as food service manager for Northwest Airlines, which at that time was flying out of Elmendorf Air Force Base. In 1949, he went back to Minnesota and brought his wife and three children up over the Alaska Highway. They made their home in Anchorage, where he worked for various other companies before retiring from Firestone as its district representative for Alaska. He retired to the Valley and finally to the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers' Home in 1986.
He was a member of Crimestoppers, CBMC, the Palmer Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.
His family wrote: "He was always twisting someone's arm to get something donated to the Palmer Pioneers' Home to make it more beautiful or useful for the residents there. He did such a great job of it that in 1993, he received Alaska's First Lady Volunteer Award. For many years he went to the Senior Joke and Storytelling event at the Alaska State Fair where he won a whole wall of mostly first- place ribbons. The storytellers can now move up in rank as the king has retired.
"Ed left a legacy to his family and friends of love and encouragement."
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy; four brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by one brother, Dale Lynch, and sister, Barbara Ewald, both of Minnesota; children and spouses, Dennis and Judy Lynch of Anchorage, Wayne and Ellen Lynch, and Kathleen and Vern Neddeau of Wasilla; grandchildren, Jackie Lynch, Jennifer (Randy) Howard, Deborah (Brad) Wilson, Maria (Dennis) Chavez, Michael (Maria) Lynch, Theresa (Kenneth) Chrisman, Joel (Rhonda) Lynch, Corinna (Thomas) Schachle, Christian Mandregan, Melissa (Mark) Triche, Robert (Michelle) Sande and Kelly Hall; 33 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Food Pantry of Wasilla or Heartreach Pregnancy Center.
