Adoption/Guardianship 1866-1870

Dr Burris S & Mary E (Fletcher) Everett lived in Allerton, Wayne County,and raised a girl named Cora. She was born circa 1866 in Iowa. She was living with them on the 1870 & 1880 Wayne County Census. I am looking for the identity of the girl. I believe she may have been the daughter of Napoleon and Sarah Shattuck Williams. Would anybody be able to check the records at the courthouse for information regarding this adoption/guardianship?
