Obituary
John Leonard Maddux was born in Lee County, Iowa November 9, 1848 and died at his home in Seymour May 14, 1909, aged 60 years, 6 months, 5 days. He was married to Margaret Bower July 15, 1870. To them were born ten children – seven of whom are living; Mrs. Alice Gaddis, Henry, Hugh, Merna, Charlie, Mrs. Mellie Clemens and Mrs. Nellie Clemens. About 22 years ago Mr. Maddux moved from Milan, Mo., to Seymour and, with the exception of a short time he lived in Numa, has resided since that time in Seymour. His friends have been anxious about him for some months and could see how gradually his strength was failing and evidence of the fatality of his trouble became more and more apparent to his loved ones. He made a brave fight for life and kept a cheerful spirit and even hope of recovered up to near the end. The funeral service was conducted from the late home on Sunday afternoon, May 16, at 1:30. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered to pay last respects and share the sorrow of the bereaved family. Burial in Southlawn. A. E. C.
