Obituary

Died-At his residence in Wayne County, Ia., on Sunday, Dec. 20th, 1885, Newton B. Knapp aged sixty years, three months, and eighteen days.

Newton B. Knapp was born in Putnam County, New York, on Sept. 2nd 1825. He moved to Iowa at an early day, locating in Lee County, where he resided until about two years ago, when he moved to Wayne County. Mr. Knapp has been a church member in fact as well as in name for upwards of 25 yreas, most of which time he was associated with the Baptist Church, but lately, we understand with the M. E. Church. He has been afflicted for upwards of 10 months, suffering most severly, during which time he has not murmered, but has borne his sufferings in silence. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Mathenia of the large congregation of neighbors and friends being present. To the stricken family, the sympathy of a host of friends and admirers goes out, for Mr. Knapp was a man of rare virtues.
