Leon, Decatur County, IowaJanice Kay Ross, age 77, was born October 20, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa to Herman and Madeline Josephine (McCall) Dilliner. She went home to the Lord on December 30, 2016, at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa.
Janice went to grade school in Des Moines. Her folks bought a farm and moved near Lineville, Iowa. She went from eighth grade through high school there.
Janice married William Belvel in 1957, three children were born to them, Dayna, William, and Steve Belver. They later divorced and she married Hugh Holton. Two children were born to them, Hugh P. and Cinthia M. Holton. They later divorced and she married Billie Ross on October 21, 1989. They bought a house in Leon, where they lived until poor health forced Janice to go to the nursing home in April of 2015.
Janice had five children and Billie four. She said they could field a softball team. Janice’s stepchildren are Beth, Rick, Dave, and Mark Ross. She took great interest in her family. She liked to go camping and have cookouts with them.
Janice was an excellent cook and when she lived in California, she made wedding cakes and cakes for other occasions. She enjoyed making large dinners for all the family. She worked for O’Bryan Brothers for many years until she retired in 2009. Soon after her retirement, her health failed, but she did not complain. She kept a positive attitude and had a smile for everyone.
She was a member of the Leon Calvary Baptist Church for many years until her death. Even after her health failed and she lived in the nursing home, she attended church until she could not get into the vehicle anymore. She looked forward to the visits the minister made to her room.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Joanne Reynolds and her husband, Tom; and daughter, Dayna Illg.
She leaves behind, her husband, Billie Ross of Leon; children, Billy Belvel of Riverside, California, Steve Belvel of Scottsdale, Arizona, Hugh Holton, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, and Cindy Clements of Waukee, Iowa; grandchildren, Sara Reya, Stevie and Matt Belvel, Tyler Holton, Dustin and Kayla Holton, Brookly Clements, Jordan and Catlin Hawthorne, and Danny Illg; great grandchildren, Avalyn, Essmarie, Mikal, Allison, and Quinnlyn Holton; stepchildren, Beth & Eric Lundstrom of Berwick, Iowa, Dave & Randie Ross of Kellerton, Iowa, Rick & Barb Ross of Woodland, Iowa, and Mark Ross & friend, Carla of San Jose, California; step grandchildren, Erica & Mike Pieper, Lainey & Billy Rogers, Adam & Ashley Lundstrom, Taylor Ross, Katherina Snyder, Brenden Tapley, and Waylon & Serria Hill; step great grandchildren, Qwinn and Billy Rogers, Amelia Lundstrom, and Adalyn Raymond; brother, Monte Dilliner and wife Victoria of Lineville, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017, with Rev. Max Carmichael and Rev. Jerry McFeron officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lineville, Iowa.
