David A. Kelly
Naples, FL

David Archie Kelly, son of Joseph and Edith Livingston Kelly of Emmetsburg, Iowa, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the age of 84 at his home in Naples, FL. David was born May 18, 1929—thirty minutes after his twin Donald William.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers John, Patrick, James, Donald, Raymond; and sisters Catherine and Marie.

David graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School, Emmetsburg Iowa in 1949 and served in the Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as an Army cook. David will be remembered for his love of roller skating, golfing, dancing, and cooking on the grill. He loved his family--brothers, sisters, son, daughter, five grandsons, many nieces, nephews, in-laws and his wife of over fifty years, Nadine. David worked many years in the meat industry in Iowa—meat market manager, sales, process foreman in meat production; he owned and ran Kelly's Place, his Irish community bar and the movie theater in Corydon, IA; he sold gas grills and propane in Florida. David assisted in starting Jaycees in Ida Grove and Sibley. In Corydon, Iowa, he chaired the building committee for Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, started the Old Settlers omelet breakfast, and ran the Little League Food Stand for the Legion baseball program as well as introducing the St. Patrick's celebration. Kelly's Place was the 'place to be' on St. Pat's with free ham and cabbage and green beer, Irish music and a fun time! He got the Naples Walking Club to participate in the annual St. Pat's Parade in Naples, FL, and prepared the corned beef brisket for the dinner following the parade for a number of years. He ushered and helped count offering at church and always enjoyed hugs from the ladies from church, walking club, and friends.

David will be sorely missed by his family—wife Nadine of Naples, FL; daughter Kathy (Todd) Bramley and grandsons Alec, Shane, and Conor of Albuquerque, NM, and son Michael (Sylvia) Kelly and grandsons Xavier and D. J. of Fort Myers, FL, brother Joe of CA, sisters Kelly from NM, Jean from IA and Jane from IL plus a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 22, at 10 a.m. at Shepherd of the Glades Lutheran Church, 6020 Rattlesnake Hammock Road, Naples, FL 34113. Contributions in his memory may be made to Lutheran Social Service in Iowa, 3116 University Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50311. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa 18 Oct 2013.
