The veteran attorney, Lewis Miles of Corydon, died at his home last Thursday morning at the age of 76 years. He had been a resident of Wayne county since he was thirteen years old, having come with his parents from Ohio. His wife was Miss Mary Cobb of Corydon, whom he married in 1868, and they had four children who survive him: Charles B. and William Miles are merchants in Corydon; Mrs. E. H. Carter of Corydon and Mrs. Fred Jackson of Denver, Colo.

Mr. Miles was elected to the Iowa legislature when he was twenty-four years of age, served four years in the senate and was U. S. District Attorney for southern Iowa for thirteen years, under Harrison, McKinley and Roosevelt. At the age of nienteen years he left the farm and entered the study and practice of law in Corydon where during his long life in his profession he accumulated the largest private library in Iowa and a $30,000 law library.

The funeral was held from his home Saturday at 2:30 and many people of the immense crowd were unable to get into the house and waited outside in the cold. Rev. Elias Handy of the First M. E. church conducted the service; memorial addresses were made by C. W. Steele, his law partner for thirty years; by Judge H. K. Evans, and by H. B. Bracewell, another attorney. The pall bearers were Judge H. K. Evans, K. M. LeCompte, W. E. Steele, H. B. Bracewell, D. L. Murray and C. L. Neeley. Burial was made in Corydon Cemetery.
