DEATH NOTICE:

YATES, Maxine, 100, of Humeston, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Corydon Nursing Home in Corydon, Iowa. Graveside services are held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Humeston Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Humeston First Responders.

Survivors include daughter Sondra Woods, Humeston and son Jim Yates, Corydon, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

MAXINE RUTH [KIPPER] YATES ... Maxine Ruth [Kipper] Yates, age 100, was born December 30, 1910 in Humeston, Iowa. She was the ninth child born to Nicholas John and Minnie Mariah [Norton] Kipper. She died at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

Maxine was a lifelong resident of Wayne County, Iowa and attended Humeston Public schools. On July 7, 1936, she married James Leslie Yates, two children were born to this union, Sandra Ann and James Lee.

Maxine and Jimmie owned and operated Jimmie's Highway Cafe in Humeston for 36 years, selling in 1969. After retiring they wintered in Florida for several years where they enjoyed playing golf. Maxine also enjoyed playing Bridge. She was a member of the Eastern Star for fifty years and the Methodist Church for ninety.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Jimmie in 1982; sisters, Ida Street, Edna Kipper, Faye Leech, and Lucile Hines; brothers, Wilbur, Howard, Kenneth, Carlos, and Max Kipper; and son-in-law Paul David "Buck" Woods.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Woods of Derby, Iowa; son Jim Yates of Corydon, Iowa; grandchildren, Shawn & Sharon Woods, Shane Woods, Zach & Heidi Kistler, and Calieb Kistler and friend Cheyenne; great grandchildren, Sadie Woods, Shay Woods, and David Woods and Cassie Woods, and Maddox Kistler; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
