Sarah Francis Sipes was born near Clio on July 6, 1863 and died at the Wayne County hospital April 1 after a short illness at the age of 101 years, 9 months and 3 days.

She was the third child of Charles and Martha Surbaugh McClain.

She was a member of the First Baptist church for many years. On December 13, 1891 she was united in marriage to E. A. Sipes. To this union five children were born.

Her husband died on February 1, 1936. An infant son, five brothers and three sisters and one grandson also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Ollie Huffman of Seymour with whom she made her home, Mrs. Myrtle Rhoades of Richvale, Calif., Mrs. Edna Davies and Mrs. Hazel Hellyer of Newton and one step-daughter, Mrs. Mae Richard of Corydon; seventeen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Wolf Funeral home in Corydon at 2:20 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Daniel Bean of the Corydon Baptist church officiating. The Rev. Hilten Griswold of Newton provided music. Pallbearers were her grandsons. She was laid to rest by her husband in the Allerton cemetery.
