JOAN LAUGHLIN (Seymour, IA) ... Joan Stewart Laughlin of Seymour, IA, was born March 23, 1937 on a farm near the Log Chain School House in Wayne County, IA. She was the daughter of Lee and Freda Marie [Cook] Stewart. She was the eighth of nine children, six girls and three boys. Her mother, Freda Marie Stewart, died when Joan was a small child. Her father later married Viola Jennings and from this marriage, Joan was joined by four more brothers and sisters.

Joan died August 28, 1994, at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 5 days from injuries sustained in an automobile accident with her husband, John.

She lived a great deal of her life in Wayne County, where she started school in the Log Chain School House. She spent most of her high school years going to Chariton High School. While attending school in Chariton, she boarded with Madge and Abel Brenaman. Following graduation from Chariton High School, she was united in marriage to John Henry Laughlin on June 17, 1956, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, IA. This marriage was blessed with three boys.

Joan accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Seymour, IA.

Joan was preceded in death by her mother and an infant brother, Harry Duane.

Survivors include her three sons and their families, Joe and wife, Terri and daughters Heidi and Amber of Macon, Jon and wife, Amy and children Greg and Megan of Pella, IA, and Jerry and wife, Ronnee of Blue Springs. Also surviving is her father Lee Stewart and wife, Viola of Allerton, IA; eleven brothers and sisters, Lorna Cochran and husband, Ross of Lucas, IA, Reva Zimmerman and husband, Kenneth of Allerton, IA, Betty Goddard of Arvada, CO, Dorothy Clow and husband, Harry of Clio, IA, Raymond Stewart and wife, Melvena of Allerton, IA, Rexine Jellison and husband, Merlin of Powersville, Gene Stewart and friend, Sharon of Bettendorf, IA, Irma Jean Harrington of Allerton, IA, Kathy Hitt and husband, Steve of Weldon, IA, Jeff Sewart and wife, Cindy of Corydon, IA, Danny Stewart of Allerton, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
