More information is needed to help you. Where was he living at the time of the 1940 census? And in 1941 when you last have a record of him? Do you have him enumerated in any other censuses, such as 1900, 1910 or 1920? Who did he marry and when and where? Did he live in the town of Washington, Iowa or the county of Washington, Iowa? Any names of children he might have lived with? Since he was born in 1845 and was alive in 1941, he would have been at least 96 years of age when he died. Was he ever in a Soldier's Home? With more information, perhaps his grave and obituary can be located.
