John J. Yoder

KALONA - John J. Yoder, 68, died Tuesday at his home in Kalona following a sudden illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Kalona Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Carl Smeltzer officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery. Visitation has begun at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Memorial contribuations may be made to the Kalona Mennonite Church Organ Fund.
He was born Dec. 23, 1906, at Kalona, to Stephen D. and Lizzie Miller Yoder. On Oct. 7, 1930, he married Mary Miller at Kalona. Mr. Yoder operated a Phillips 66 dealership in Kalona for the past 34 years.
He was a member of the Kalona City Council for 20 years, and a charter member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and Hawkeye Camp. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Mennonite Historical Society, Iowa Oil Jobbers, and Kalona Community Club, and a former church trustee.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry of Marengo; two granddaughters; seven sisters, Emma Yoder, Mrs. Mose (Anna) Yoder, Mrs. Mary Yotty and Mrs. Edwin (Lena) Knepp, all of Kalona, Mrs. Jens (Orpha) Kramer, of Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Anthony (Lidia) Myers, of Goshen, Ind., and Mrs. F. Wade (Fannie) Strickland, of Long Beach, Calif.; and two brothers, Henry Yoder, and Monroe D. Yoder, of Kalona.
One sister preceded him in death.
