Edward Beranek of Kalona dies today

KALONA - Edward Beranek, 78, of 710 Third Street in Kalona died unexpectedly at his home this morning.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Peterseim Chapel at Kalona with the Rev. Rodger McKinney in charge. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. A memorial has been started to benefit the Kalona Park fund.
Mr. Beranek was a son of Joseph and Ann Knotek Beranek and was born in Washington County Feb. 7, 1897. He married Gertrude Kallaus, Dec. 25, 1917 and she died February of 1966.
Surviving are five sons: Art of Muscatine, Hubert of Riverside, Donald of Davenport, Robert of Richmond, and Richard of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James of Riverside.
Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
