Ivo E. Grady

KALONA - Ivo E. Grady, 74, a Kalona livestock dealer for more than 50 years, died Wednesday night at his home after a long illness.
He was the father of Press-Citizen Sports Editor Al D. Grady.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, at Richmond, with the Rev. L.J. Bergthold officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery at Kalona.
Rosaries will be recited Friday at the Peterseim Funeral Home at 3 and 7:30 p.m., with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8:30 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning today. Memorial donations may be made to the Kalona Park Fund.
Mr. Grady was born Oct. 6, 1899, at Kalona, a son of Alfred N. and Anna Strabala Grady. He married Ernestine Dean, May 6, 1924, at Richmond.
He was a lifelong resident of Kalona. Until about a year ago he operated a stockyard at Kalona which ranged in time back to the early days of livestock trading, railroading and financing. Earlier in his life, he was known as an athlete and football player.
Mr. Grady was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Kalona Rotary and Kalona Community Clubs. He was a director of the Farmers Savings Bank. He graduated from Kalona High School.
Also surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. David (Mary Colleen) Ashby of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Jonas (Gretchyn) Swantz of Kalona; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Hilton of Kalona; and three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Carol) Strickler, Mrs. Willis (Cleola) Gingerich, and Norma Grady, all of Kalona.
A brother and two sisters died earlier.
