John Dayton

KALONA - John Dayton, 49, died Saturday in a hospital at Travis Air Force Base in California, after a two-year illness. He had been enroute from his California home to a veterans hospital in Iowa when he died. He was a native of Kalona.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Peterseim Funeral Chapel in Kalona, with the Rev. W.J. Stevens officiating. Burial will be in West Chester Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established.
Mr. Dayton had lived in La Puente, Calif., for the past four years. He was born Oct. 15, 1921, at Kalona to Jesse and Alta Ledman Dayton. He lived in the area until entering the Navy during World War II. He and Carol Brunger were married in Las Vegas in 1967.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Farnsworth of Kalona; five stepchildren; and four brothers, Patrick of Kalona and Mike, Donald and David, all of Washington, Iowa.
His father, a sister and two half-brothers died earlier.
